blogging in the past in the present

This post is written on 29 August 2005, but purposely backdated so that no one can see it on my blog homepage. Well, if you actually bothered to dig into my archives and find this post, then good for you. You are now reading about the beginning. The beginning of what you may ask? It's the beginning of a summer fling. Why am I writing about this now at this point of time? I don't know. I really don't know. I guess part of the reason is for cartharsis. I have moved on, and I just need to talk all this out so that I can finally relegate all this to my memories. In the rest of the archives, you might find other such entries... but this is the beginning.

The Beginning

Yesterday was the day me, Sam and Jeff (our housing coordinator) were supposed to have Japanese food. We had planned this last weekend during one of the parties at La Bahia. Valente was there too, and wanted to come along. We agreed that we'd ask him along if we really were going.

Unfortunately, Rachel Brown fell sick yesterday, and didn't show up for work! Claudia asked if either I or Sam could work her shift. I agreed, since I was working less hours that week. Her shift ended at 10pm, which is kinda late for dinner. So we decided to call off the dinner. Valente had suggested going out for drinks with Maritza after dinner, so we agreed that we'd go out for drinks still.

I ended work at 10pm, and rushed home to change. To my horror, I didn't find Samantha at home. I ran around to all the other Singaporean rooms to look for her, but she was nowhere to be found. Valente was coming at 10.15 to pick us up. Valente arrived, and I still couldn't find Sam. Well I decided to go off without her, hoping that she was safe together with Jeff. Turns out that Maritza couldn’t make it too. So it was just me and Valente.

We went to this bar called The Avenue for dollar beer night. There, I hung out with Valente's friends. There was this girl called Cori. Cori's a bartender at another bar on the wharf. She's really really nice, easy to talk to, and just overall cool. David and Brandon showed up too!

When the bar closed, we went to the liquor store and got more beer and went to Cori's house to hang out some more together with Brandon. We just sat around chatting and I started playing finger guessing games with Brandon. I was still kinda worried about Sam, and decided to ask Grace again whether she has seen her. I remember Valente hugging me from behind and then saying I smell good, and also kissing my back a little. Valente starts talking to another Mexican guy and they start arguing about racism and stuff... Anyway, Valente says we should leave, so we did. I wanted to go and look for Sam anyway. Anyway, we arrive back at La Bahia, and Valente and Brandon go to the Irish house together, and I go together with Grace to look for Sam. The short story is that we found Sam in Jeff's house after much pounding and screaming... Apparently they had gone out for dinner and had holed up in his apartment with a bottle of wine.

Finally, we get back. I bang on the door to the Irish house just to let Valente know that we found Sam and that we're heading back upstairs. Me and Sam just sit in the kitchen and talk about our night. It turns out that all those frantic messages I'd been sending her did not get through cos I was sms-ing the wrong number. And all the messages she had been sending me didn't get through too cos she did not put a +1 in front of number. She claims that she and Jeff are only friends... well we'll see about that later.

Anyway, Sam goes and takes a shower, and I slack on my bed for a while. I hear knocks on the door, and to my surprise, I see Valente outside. He looks like he wants to come in, but I don't let him cos I don't wanna wake Elaine up. I go and sit outside with him on the stairs. He says that he's really tired and drunk, and needs to rest for a while before he goes home. I ask him to come in and crash on my apartment floor for a while.

While he lay there, we chatted, and he asked if I had fun. And I said I did. He left after a while, after Sam finished bathing and Elaine woke up.

This is the beginning.
