emotional...

i just watched the documentary by michael moore farenheit 9/11. it's a documentary about president bush and iraq... as u can expect... it wasn't exactly the most complementary documentary on the bush administration. still feeling emotional from watching it. it probably will never be shown in singapore... it's too controversial.

i mean i understand that it's a film after all and that it's still michael moore's point of view... BUT really... watching the footage and seeing how sad those people are really stirred up sadness and anger in me! right now i'm pretty anti-bush too. the whole affair is just so pointless. AHHHHH... i feel so sad for all the americans who lost their lives, i feel so sad for all the poor innocent civilians in iraq and afganistan that lost their lives, i feel so sad for all the family members who are crying and bitter because their children/husbands/wives were killed in a pointless war.

"special" javier burger

Javier made me this HUGE burger. It's a turkey club, but a regular turkey club has 3 slices of turkey and 1 slice of cheese. This "special" one has 6 slices of turkey and 2 slices of cheese! Whoa.... i cant stuff it into my mouth!

SHOPAHOLIC IN CALIFORNIA

omg... u don't even wanna know how much i've shopped in the past 2 days. yesterday trina brought me and rachel and samantha to gilroy. waaaaaahhh... the place is super big! we were there from 2pm til 9pm and we still havent gone to all the outlets! we missed places like guess, dkny, adiddas, GAP... omg.. i wanna go back...

neway here's my shopping conquests... one more pair of levis (only 19.90! how could i resist!), 1 pair of yoga pants, lounge pants, and some body moisturiser. i wanted to buy this pair of really cute nike shoes! but i decided that i wouldnt wear them once i went back to singapore. i hardly wear shoes in singapore! ok those were yesterday.
TODAY... i went to the GAP sale (they have a shop here in santa cruz) i bought this really pretty dress that i liked but was waaaay to expensive. and now it's only 28.90... happy... and a GAP top for 7.99. waaaah... i'm in shopping heaven!!!!!!!!

neway that's just my shopping... it's my joy... i 'm pretty sure no one else understands my joy... maybe jessica (my shopping buddy!!!!) hahaz...

oh oh.. exciting stuff happened yesterday! yesterday as we were coming back from gilroy, we lost our way a little cos trina couldnt remember which way to go... then as we were on the highway, we got pulled over by a police car! omg.. we were so nervous! trina was speeding, she was driving at 80mph (speed limit was 65mph)... dang! we thought that she was gonna get a ticket! we all didnt know what to do.. trina didnt know either! so the cop stopped behind us and he didnt get out. trina was wondering whether she should get out! she opened the car door, and the cop was like "please stay in the car". k so she got back in. THEN, trina leaned over to get her car registration paper from the glove compartment. the cop came over to my side of the window, and asked, what did u put into the glove compartment? we were like nothing, we were just taking out the registration paper. he asked us to open the glove compartment, and so we did. and there was this bottle of body spray in there. he looked at the bottle and asked us to take it out and what it was. i was like "it's body spray" and he went "OH". haha... i think he thought we were drinking or something. then he asked to see trina's license, and was talking to her outside. so i was wondering if i should get out and give her some support (not like i knew what to do) and just as i was trying to get out of the car, the cop was like "if u'll just stay in the car ma'm. okaaay... so i got back in...

neway... THANK GOD he didnt give trina a ticket! whew... such a relief! a ticket would have cost something like $140! it would have been a bad end to the day! we were so happy...

then samantha got a call from her brother saying that her grandfather had passed away. *sigh* i feel pretty sorry for her... cos it's pretty hard even though she wasn't close to her grandfather at all.

all that happened yesterday. all in all, it was a pretty eventful day!

yup yup... i'm still super happy over my GAP dress...

the 1st movie i watched in america

on saturday night, i went out with trina, david and valente to watch harry potter! it was a nice end to an otherwise rather sian off day. that was becos i was the only one having an off day on saturday! and u know it's a saturday... most ppl would be really happy... but i had no one to spend it with! so i did my usual, went to the library to use the internet, contemplated going to watch a movie, but decided not to, then went to capitola mall to do some shopping!

yep... then in the evening, i went back and stopped by the boardwalk to check my schedule for this week! and trina (such a nice girl, she is) invited me to watch a movie with them! yeahz she came to pick me up and everything... how fun! oh well the movie wasn't that great... can't believe for such a long movie they only were able to show up to the middle of the book! it was such a disappointment... sigh...

speaking of harry potter, remember earlier i was talking about a supervisor that me and samantha call "harry potter" cos he looks so much like harry! neway he seemed a little quiet and depressed for the past few days, and i was wondering what was wrong. then yesterday, he voluntarily told me that he just broke up with his girlfriend a week ago. yeah... he's really like a little kid... and the funny thing was samantha was saying oh if u can't finish this piece of work, u can go home and cry (u know like what we usually say), then he replied saying oh that(referring to crying) was yesterday. i was like okaaaaay... then later we were teasing him a little about harry potter, then he was like "u shouldn't bully me now, i'm feeling vulnerable." omg! i was like OKAAAAAYYY... he's like a kid... i just wanna pat him on the head and make him feel better...

oh i got my leave for tuesday! and so did trina, rachel and samantha! so trina's gonna drive us down to gilroy! i must treat her to a meal to make up for it! she's such a sweet girl....

super drama night!

oh i just had to create a separate post for this... neway there was a big party where i live last night.the party was in honour of michele and ashley's birthdays. it was the 1st real house party i've been too. it was more fun than i thought it would be cos there was actually music! most of the time when they stand and talk, they just really stand in the cold and talk... so boring... but yesterday there were actually people i worked with and stuff... so it was fun...

neway cos of the music, security came to break up the party. michele was upset, cos like it's her party and she cannot have fun. after that, everyone started leaving, and so did we. we just went back upstairs to our room. then... i decided to be nosy and peek outside for a second... and i saw one security guy and one policeman pushing michele's boyfriend to the ground and putting handcuffs on him! michele was crying!

me and elaine were speculating on what happened... then today michele told me what happened. apparently, when security came, the boyfriend got angry, cos michele was upset, so he cursed and swore at the security guy, and then according to the security guy tried to jump at him. so, security called the police and they arrested the boyfriend and put him in jail overnight. and i think he's still there now! and michele is being temporarily suspended from her job and might be asked to leave the boardwalk.

super drama right? my 1st house party, and someone gets arrested! haha...

yeah... finally a fun party. we should have more of these...

Jason came to visit me on thursday (17th June)

haha... the promised bear from jason. it's quite dumb actually cos he claimed to be able to win this game anytime. so he was boasting that he probable could win one for each of my roommates too! in the end... he spent $10 before he could win me ONE bear... i think we could have just bought it for that amount... haha...

neway jason's friend max is a pretty nice guy. so paiseh, cos i thought jason would be driving... so i can ask him to take me to the supermarket. but no.. turns out that max is the one driving jason down! so i had to ask him to bring me grocery shopping. and then i needed to buy alcohol for the party (which i will talk about later) BUT my ID was not recognised at safeway. bah. i had to get max to go and buy it for me... sigh. i can't believe how hard it is to buy alcohol here! people still drink alot though... i wonder how? haha

waiting in anticipation

yesterday i talked to claudia about setting my schedule... and yes she has more or less fixed my schedule. i'm gonna get monday and tuesday off all the time, and then i'm probably gonna be closing all the time from now on. which is fine with me... even though closing is the harder part... BUT closers usually get to keep the (illegal)tips! and i usually get around $2 in tips every time i work. unless it's really slow. hehe...

so today i went to sunshops to see if they still wanted to hire me... gave them my schedule, and they say they'll call me back if they can fit me in. i hope they do... i hope i can earn another $100-200 every 2 wks from them so that i have more money to spend when i go travelling. yah... i figure that right now if i only have one job, i'll earn enough to have US$1000 left over for travelling after deducting my cost. but then if i earn a little more, i get to travel longer and better! wahahaha....

ok ok... enough of the money-minded part... tmr is my off day... i can relax and have fun! will probably go and take rides or watch a movie. oh i'm gonna make jason drive me to the grocery store... running low on food!!!

omg smelly man alert... he just sat down beside me... he smells like shit! don't these people bathe???? i gotta go... i need to breathe!

eye infection......

AGAIN! ahhhh... yesterday my left eye was scratchy and itchy... and i thought it was just my contacts that irritated me... but it turns out that i have an eye infection! bah... no more contact lenses for the next 2 days... gonna buy eye drops too... sigh... wat a bother.

oh i just bought a pillow from the thrift store so that i can hug it at nite.. hehe... i'm so happy. neway my apartment is accumulating with junk... cos for the past few days my neighbours have been moving out cos they have to go home.. and they throw alot of stuff up! one of my housemates, elaine is the ultimate karang guni! she woke me up one day to help her carry a table up from downstairs! haha... but now the apartment looks much more homely.

yesterday i had to do paperwork in the office with angel after the park closed. of the 3.5hrs i spent there probably 1hr was spent doing real work i.e. sorting out stuff... and 2.5 hrs was spent chatting with him... haha.. he's quite a funny guy. i tell ya... on the surface he's this fierce, stern guy... but deep down inside, he's mushy and romantic at heart... he was translating some of his favourite spanish songs for me to hear, and they're really mushy! stuff like "i wanna be a bird so that i can spend all my time around you", and "i want to be a warrior so that i can protect you..." hahaz... then he tried to say that the reason that he likes the songs are cos the music is good, and the lyrics and the music really fit together... but of cos... i know better....

hmmm... i really wonder if i'll get 40 hrs this wk. cos everyday i'm gonna be at the office, and then they might ask me to go home early... bah... so i might end up getting only like 30+ hrs... i think.. sigh... bad.. bad. bad.

oh well... today i'm gonna ask for a set schedule from the scary supervisor. wish me all the best! pray for me too!

oh and guess what? jason's coming to visit me on thursday! he's bringing his friend (who apparently wants to meet me) who is studying summer school in UCSC, and stays in san jose (which is quite nearby). i wanna meet him too... haha.. it's definitely a good idea meeting people who drive and who stay nearby!

MORE HAPPY NEWS!

K ... 1st happy thing... on thursday, kenny made a 8 hr trip from LA all the way to santa cruz to see me... awwww i'm so touched! then he had to drive the same 8 hrs back too... poor thing... and he brought me sambal chilli and oyster sauce and soya sauce!!! woohoo!!!! oh that day was interesting cos it was the 1st time i ate breakfast in the middle of the night... apparently, this place called dennys is open 24 hrs a day and u can eat breakfast at any time. so like at 10pm i was eating scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes... omg... it was SO GOOD!!!!! the pancakes were the ultimate best... fat and fluffy with butter and maple syrup... woooooo

2nd happy thing happened yesterday. the director of food services "promoted" me from normal food service staff to a permanent espresso cart staff! which means that i don't have to work anywhere else, and i get paid $8/hr. andhe was really nice when he told me too... like he said that they've discussed it, and so they'll just do away with the mandatory interview for when ppl request for promotion, and just give me the job! and then like said congratulations, and keep up the good work!.. yay... now i get the nicer t shirt... and yeah... earn more money... hahaz... cool....

i finally managed to call home too! after all the tribulations and trauma i went through when i was trying to get a phone card and trying to top up my cell phone prepaid card online. omg... u dont even want to know how traumatic that was!!! bleargh... cos they couldn't reach me on a regular phone, so i had to keep on trying to call them.. waste my time! bah... and i kept thinking that they were gonna steal my money... oh man... if i ever think of buying anything else online please just bash me on the head and remind me of this incident!... bah.

oh oh... 3rd happy thing... next tues (22 june) trina (my lead) is bringing me and rachel (another singaporean girl) to gilroy! (if we can all get the same day off... that's where all the factory outlets are!!! wowwwww!!!!! apparently it's a really really big place!!!!! with tons of stuff! wahahahaha... trina's such a nice girl. i really like her... i think it helps too that she's japanese... u know... when u are among the midst of ang mohs, the asians just stick together.

oh yeah... remember all my complaints about noisy neighbours? well... now i'm gonna be part of them too... me and my friends have decided that we have to be sociable and hang out with them too... sigh. which means going out and sitting in the cold... making pointless small talk... when we could be hanging out in one of our rooms talking to each other about our day. but oh well... we can't be anti social... neway next week there's gonna be someone's birthday party... it's a bring your own booze party... we'll probably be going to hang out too... in the cold... i'll let u guys know how that goes!

yeah yeah... i'm having fun... i got closing shifts all this week! which means that i can update almost everyday... wahaha and check email more often too... so u guys can start emailing me!

k k ... neway nothing much has happened in the week or so that i havent blogged... i've been working and sleeping and going shopping!!!! oh well actually i've only been proper shopping once... AND i bought a pair of levis superlow for US$29.90... damn cheap rite?

i'm having quite a good time at work... the only time i feel bored is when it's a slow day and there's absolutely nothing to do!! omg... those are the worst.. but other than that... i'm having quite alot of fun... all the supervisors in the office know me by now... i wonder is that's a good thing or a bad thing... but this particular one called michael... he's around 26 yrs old.. and he's the cutest one in the office... he looks a little like harry potter haha... he likes to tease me!!! omg... he'll just call my name over and over again just for fun... *faint* like imagine 10 times in a row... "bettina... bettina bettina bettina" in various weird voices... they're all funny people...
then this one called angel has a korean girlfriend! he's mexican... but gf is korean american... she's quite pretty... quite sweet... she's the kind that ang moh guys like... u know the wong lilin type...
oh and i've discovered that the boardwalk hires alot of single parents... angel has a daughter(that is full mexican...the gf is korean), the admin staff has a daughter(and she's not married), the scary supervisor has a son (and she's not married too! maybe divorced) haha.. neway i know alot of gossip already just by being around there.

oh! and there was a period 2 wks ago that we were running out of toilet paper... so we desperately needed some! and so my friend koped one roll fromm the public toilet... but now... we are overflowing with toilet paper!!! another friend went to costco... which is like this place that u buy alot of stuff real cheap but in big quantities... SO... right now i have like 30 rolls of toilet paper in my room! omg... i'm now trying to sell away some of it... haha...

yeah yeah... life is good... i'm not feeling melancholic anymore... i'm really HAPPY!!!!!
